Decorating a Quilting Square for the Quilts! Collaborative Art Project for 2026

Quilts! Collaborative Community Art Project for 2026 at the Michigan Legacy Art Park,  celebrating the craft of quilting as an art form for the
United States Semiquincentennial! 
“Quilts! is a collaborative community arts project conceived by artist Patricia Innis. The project takes its inspiration from the craft of quilting as an expression of the
histories, communities, and cultures in Michigan. Historically, quilting existed as a communal activity using the creative process to foster social connections. We
envision this project functioning similarly to a quilting bee, with students and
participants of all ages designing their own pieces together, in real time, to
contribute to the larger whole.”

Michigan Legacy Art Park has invited community groups to participate:
the Betsie Valley District Library is delighted to be participating!

We are inviting everyone in our community to participate! Stop into the Library and pick up a wooden square to decorate at home or decorate one here at the
Library! The design is totally up to you! After decorating the squares, we will collect them to deliver to the  Michigan Legacy Art Park by the end of May. The squares will be displayed as a “community quilt” from the Betsie Valley District Library! The squares will become property of the Michigan Legacy Art Park.
Let’s all quilt together and create a tapestry of our community!
